Galle Fort, is situated in the the Bay of Galle on the south coast of Sri Lanka. It was built first in 1588 by the Portuguese, and then extensively fortified by the Dutch during the 17th century from 1649 onwards. The Galle Fort has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site under criteria IV, for its unique exposition of an urban ensemble which illustrates the interaction of European architecture and South

Asian traditions from the 16th to the 19th centuries.

 

What to Expect

 

You will be picked up from your hotel in Colombo/Negombo at 8.30am-9.30 am and then proceed to Galle city via the express way. On the way stop by a spice garden and learn about the turtles at the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Project. Later visit Galle Fort, the Galle National Museum, and the Maritime Museum. Stop by the Groote Kerk 3 (Great Church), the oldest Protestant place of worship in Sri Lanka, built in 1755. You can also explore the Galle Lighthouse, an offshore lighthouse operated and maintained by the Sri Lanka Port Authority.

Finally, stroll the streets of Galle, admiring its architecture and sampling its many cafés. Watch cliff-divers jump off the ramparts into the sea. Your tour will end here and we will bring you back to your respective hotel in Colombo/Negombo.
